Research Day at the Capitol

Research Day at the Capitol (RD@C) is a state-wide undergraduate research symposium held annually in the Oklahoma State Capitol rotunda during the legislative session. The 2017 symposium adds an oral presentation session the evening prior to the historic poster session. Sponsored by the Oklahoma EPSCoR office, the symposium showcases to the legislature and public the high-quality research and outstanding undergraduate researchers from all of Oklahoma’s comprehensive and regional colleges and universities.

1. Are you interested or know someone who is a good candidate for presenting at the next RD@C event?

The annual nomination window for RD@C is open between the first day of the Fall semester and the first Monday after October 15th! Access the webform and nomination details here!

Since EPSCoR allows OU only TWO representatives from the hundreds of students engaged in research on the Norman campus, presenting at Research Day at the Capitol is quite prestigious. In addition to the possibility of earning cash prizes, students gain experience in presenting their work to a general audience through a poster and a short presentation. The Office of Undergraduate Research conducts a local competition every Fall semester to select our two representatives for the state-wide event.

To be eligible for the OU nomination, a student must:

  • Be enrolled for the complete current school year;
  • Have conducted their research at an Oklahoma education or research institution in the areas of science, social science, engineering, mathematics, or technology;
  • Be a legal resident of Oklahoma;
  • Submit all required documents by the O.U.R. deadline;
  • Be selected by the O.U.R., and our designated internal judges, to represent OU;
  • Agree to attend all mandatory events
    • For the 2017-2018 academic year, these include:
      • Nov. 11, 2016 (Sat.), 9:30 am – noon, OKC, Informational training session
      • Mar. 26, 2017 (Mon.), 12:00 pm – 5:00 pm, OKC, Poster presentation & judging
      • Mar. 27, 2017 (Tues.), 8:30 am – 12:00 pm, OKC, Poster session for legislators and awards

The O.U.R. assists students in preparing for and completing this event.  To find out more about the next RD@C, contact the O.U.R. and check EPSCoR’s Research Day at the Capitol website.
